Stranger Than Paradise
13. May 2026Guided tour through the exhibition
Stranger Than Paradise
At the center of Stranger Than Paradise is the monumental picture collage carpet that delighted the audience at the Olma. In the cabinet, Thessy Schoenholzer shows Nichol’s Hortus conclusus – miniature textile gardens. The exhibition questions the idea of paradise as a harmonious natural idyll, an ideal couple or a heavenly place. It shows: Paradise is a fragile fiction. Flower gardens are a symbol of life. The paradise garden promises sensual richness. The closed garden, the hortus conclusus, is a protected place of purity and beauty. In today’s understanding of a mindfulness garden, it serves as a retreat in contemplative silence. Paradise is a place of longing for inner refuge.
No registration necessary.
