A group exhibition with Erwin Schatzmann, Hermann Reinfrank, Karsten Neumann and Matthias Kuk Krucker focussing on the phenomenon of collecting

The focus of this exhibition is the phenomenon of collecting. How do artists collect, and how does their collecting relate to their artistic work? The exhibition features artists who reorganize their collections, formulate them into a work, and reinterpret them as art. It brings together everyday objects, objets trouvés, as well as found items from the street and second-hand shops —even including waste materials. The artists’ collections are part of the environment in which they live and the origin of their art. Stephan Trescher: “As with garbage, so it is with society: everything is there, it just needs to be reorganized.”

Carte Blanche
Why do people collect? What do we collect? What stories are hidden in the objects and behind private collections? Does a homo collector exist alongside homo faber? Does collecting change our view of the world? We will pose these questions and more to people who have dedicated themselves to a specific area of collecting. They collect pinball machines, cars, porcelain figures, drinking vessels, and much more: Collectors discuss their collecting activities as well as their experience of living with the objects, and present parts of their collections.
