Ficht Tanner – A Drawn Life
15. November 2026 - 16. May 2027
Ficht Tanner experienced and described a world in which sounds become shapes and colors echo like voices. To celebrate his 75th birthday, the open art museum presents an exhibition devoted to his drawn oeuvre—a unique body of work spanning his artistic life.
From these synesthetic experiences emerges an inner exploration that runs through his entire body of work: music and singing, drawing and painting, embroidery, poems and thoughts. In it, the artist appears as a traveler of the mind, as a “Space Dream Traveler”—a true psychonaut who feels his way forward through visions, intuitions, and poetic impulses. Drawing is the medium that has accompanied Ficht Tanner throughout his life. The exhibition explores the life of the Trogen-based artist through his drawings. Every stroke and every motif in Tanner’s work reflects an experience.
Ficht Tanner (born 1952) is an exceptional artist who defies categorization. Artist, musician, free spirit, thinker, mystic—a master of the art of living: this native of Appenzell seems to embody it all. He first gained recognition as a musician (“Appenzeller Space Schöttl” with Töbi Tobler). Yet for him, music and imagery are inseparable; sound is both color and symbol. Ficht Tanner brings everything from within to the outside world, translating it into sound, line, and stroke.
Accompanying the exhibition is the publication “Ficht Tanner – A Life Drawn”
